Back in April I was honored to help the Pikes Peak Library District’s Poet Laureate Project kick off Poetry Month in Colorado Springs. It was a fine, well-attended shindig with several wonderful poets, and the District generously videotaped the whole thing. I shudder a bit to see myself onscreen; it brings home too vividly the fact that I have quite a few performance tics that I’m now too far into dotage to correct. But the other poets—Pikes Peak Poet Laureate Janice Gould and former PP Laureates Price Stobridge, Aaron Anstett, and Jim Ciletti, along with Colorado’s 2015 Poetry Out Loud winner Jeana Lovett—kept the poetry electric and the crowd thoroughly charged up.
Don’t stop with the April event, though. There are 11 pages of thumbnails linking to some fine poems read by some fine poets from the Pikes Peak region, which seems to be a particularly effective incubator of poetic talent. Maybe it’s something in the water….
