I started organizing First Saturday Poetry Readings at BookBar, a thriving indie bookstore in Northwest Denver, back in April 2014, and as the year nears its end I thought it would be useful to list everyone who has participated so far. Perception and Imagination
Sometimes one makes a brilliant response to a blog post somewhere in the ether—a comment that deserves a life outside that comment stream. This is not one of those. Nevertheless, because the issue is so interesting (at least to me), I’m reposting my comment here. Cracking the Carapace
Here’s a good post by poet Chris Ransick on “Beginner’s Mind” and openness. I love his observation that all too often insight and learning “bounce off the carapace that has formed” around the mind. Based on my own carapace, I’d have to say that almost every time I crack it open it pretty quickly starts growing back together. The process never ends.Read More
Joseph Hutchison, Colorado Poet Laureate 2014-2019, has published 20 collections of poems and edited or co-edited three poetry anthologies. He currently directs two master’s-level programs for University College at the University of Denver: Professional Creative Writing and Arts & Culture Management. Joe lives with his wife, Melody Madonna, in the mountains southwest of Denver, Colorado, the city where he was born.
