One of the great side effects of being a poet laureate is that opportunities to read with other poets laureate arise unexpectedly. Case in point (from the press release):
On Thursday, May 21st from 7:00-8:00 p.m., the University of Denver is hosting An Evening with Two Poet Laureates in the Anderson Academic Commons, Special Events Room. This reading brings together for the first time Colorado Poet Laureate Joseph Hutchison (University College) and former Oregon Poet Laureate Lawson Inada. Both will read from their work, as well as engage with the audience.
This event is free and open to the public, but organizers are asking attendees to reserve spaces ahead of time. Click here to reserve your free space(s)! And for more information, email Bonnie Clark.
Bonnie has been deeply involved in the D.U. Amache Research Project, and Lawson Inada, who as a child during WWII was among the 7,000 Japanese Americans forcibly removed from California and relocated to the Amache internment camp in southeastern Colorado, is coming to Denver to participate in the opening of a student and community curated exhibit, “Connecting the Pieces.” Using objects unearthed through the Amache Project, the exhibit tells the story of Japanese American internment during World War II. The event is free and open to the public.
