Racism, Patriarchy, and Power: Siri Hustvedt on the Toxic Thinking Behind the Supreme Court’s Destruction of Abortion Rights
The issue is not abortion rights. The issue is one of sovereignty over one’s own body.
Also, a little levity for all my female friends (click the image for the full array of in-your-face messages):
“Legislating reproduction and curtailing reproductive rights has been and remains a hallmark of authoritarian and fascist governments.” Yes, that is where this Supreme Court is taking us.Next up: abolishing the separation of church and state.
As we used to say in Brooklyn, I used to think Alito was beneath contempt. But I was wrong, he’s quite contemptible. The second Slick Sam could get impregnated, he’d change his tune like an off-key bagpiper.
“It is important to acknowledge that misogyny drives anti-abortion thought and this hatred turns on denial”–
That hatred, and what else it can fuel, is terrifying.
Thanks for the history lesson that supports my fear that we are slipping into a misogynistic, anti-democratic state in this nation. And that fear seems in include many other fears of our old white male dominated government.
