Launch Reading for Eyes of the Cuervo / Ojos del Crow in Mexico
You know you’re over-committed when you’ve managed to download and edit a launch-reading video and then forgotten to upload it to your website. Yep, I’ve done just that but am correcting the oversight now. Below you’ll see me reading the English originals and my friend Iván Fuentes reading the Spanish translations, where were beautifully done by Patricia Herminia. What you can see are the excellent illustrations done for the book by Sabina Espinet.Read More

Don’t Miss My U.S. Book Launch Reading with Kyle Laws on Friday, May 25th
In late April I launched my new collection, Eyes of the Cuervo | Ojos del Crow, at the boutique seaside hotel Melody and I have enjoyed every year for more than two decades. It is limited to 250 copies which have been numbered and signed by moi. Now, on May 25th, comes the official U.S. launch of Eyes/Ojos, in the Mad Blood Presents reading series hosted in Evergreen, Colorado.Read More

Video: Professional Creative Writing Open House Readings
Faculty members of the Professional Creative Writing program, which I direct at D.U., read at an Open House on March 7, 2018. Presenters included Pat Dubrava, Brian Laidlaw, Tripp Baltz, Page Lambert, Emily Vizzo, Trai (Traci) Cartwright, Tim Earley … and moi. Please note: This video was shot on an iPad statically positioned on a wire display stand. For better or worse, the makers gave the performing writers—professionals all—no guidance about where to stand to remain in the shot. Luckily, we did at least capture the exciting flow of words, and the words are what matter.Read More

The Drama of War-Time Poetry
The performance of “War of Words” went off without a hitch last night in the Black Box Theater at the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities. Having written the script, I was surprised by how moving it was—how the century-old poems sprang to life with such power and subtlety from the mouths of the five actors. Among the many enlivening elements were smoothly delivered accents—Hardy’s Dorset English, Apollinaire’s bon vivant playfulness, the taut Germanic sounds of Trakl, and the sly Chicagoan cadences of Carl Sandburg.Read More

An Alert from the Poetry Early Warning System
This is far in advance, I know, but I’m hoping you’ll all put this event on your calendars then jump on those devices to snag tickets! The event is a performance by four Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities actors of a script I’ve written/assembled, which aims to flesh out the conflicting and conflicted reactions to the U.S. entry into WWI by twelve North American poets.Read More
