My wife Melody and I are heading out for Mexico today—our 13th year at our favorite mini-resort, Petit Lafitte, situated about 6 miles north of Playa del Carmen, on the Caribbean side of the Yucatán peninsula.
Our first week will be all tangled up with Melody’s annual Yoga Fiesta. And who knows? This year I may even pretzelize!
But normally I spend my time reading and writing—the only extended stretch of creative time I seem to carve out every year. So our second week, for me, is a continuation; for Melody it’s a vacation from yoga and an exercise in her own reading.
Here are some of writers whose work I’ll be savoring in my hamaca:
Cid Corman
Sarah Hannah
Efraín Huerta
Joanna Klink
Ko Un
Laila Lalami
Patrick McCabe
Renée Ruderman
Tracy K. Smith
Xavier Villaurrutia
Needless to say I seldom finish every book I take! And I don’t know if I’ll have the energy or inclination to post—the beach and bar take precedence—but if I can muster the concentration you may hear from me a time or two.
Hasta pronto y un fuerte abrazo…
