February First Saturday Reading @ BookBar

perezbackyardmigrationroutecoveremilyperez2Emily Pérez is the author of the chapbook Backyard Migration Route. She holds degrees from Stanford and the University of Houston, where she was poetry editor for Gulf Coast and taught with Writers in the Schools. Her poems have appeared in journals including Crab Orchard Review, Calyx, Borderlands, and DIAGRAM, and her full length book, House of Sugar, House of Stone, is forthcoming from the Center for Literary Publishing. She is a high school English teacher and dean and lives in Denver with her husband and sons.




jodiehollanderJodie Hollander was raised in a family of classical musicians. She studied poetry in England and has published her work in journals such as The Poetry ReviewThe Dark Horse,Verse DailyThe Warwick Review, Agenda, and anthologies including The Best Australian Poems 2011  and The Best Australian Poems 2015. Her debut publication, The Humane Society, was released with Tall-Lighthouse (London) in 2012. Jodie is the recipient of a Fulbright Fellowship in South Africa, a Hawthornden Fellowship in Scotland, and was awarded a MacDowell Colony fellowship in February of 2015. In the fall she was guest editor for Poetry Quarterly, and is currently the poetry editor for Garo, the new online journal at the Rocky Mountain Land Library.

    Dear Joseph; You’d get a better response if you offered 4 or 5-5-min. open Mike slots during the gathering time. N.B. This suggestion is not meant as a criticism… but for example – If i’m coming from Boulder I would attend more often if I could reserve a 4-5 min. slot to present a piece during the gathering time.
