Video from the Jaipur Literature Festival/Boulder
I had the pleasure of moderating the first panel discussion on the first day of the Jaipur Literature Festival/Boulder, which ran September 19-20 at the Boulder Public Library. The event attracted some 6,000 visitors over the two days, which is pretty remarkable. Our panel, consisting of Eleni Sikelianos, Arvind Krishna Mehrotra, and Vijay Seshadri, addressed the topic of “The Poetic Imagination” with verve and good humor. Because it went so well, I’m pleased to say that the Jaipur Literature Festival/Boulder folks have released videos of many sessions from the Festival, ours included. You can click below to watch it.Read More

Free Poetry! In Colorado Springs on Sunday, October 11
I’m excited about the opportunity to read with two poets whose work I admire, Janice Gould and Juan Morales, at the Penrose Library in Colorado Springs. It will be a laid-back affair, I think, on a Sunday afternoon from 2:00-4:00 p.m. While you’re there, you can relax in the Carnegie Public Garden (laid-back, like I said).Read More

Join Us for a Reading with Lawson Inada
One of the great side effects of being a poet laureate is that opportunities to read with other poets laureate arise unexpectedly. Case in point (from the press release): On Thursday, May 21st from 7:00-8:00 p.m., the University of Denver is hosting An Evening with Two Poet Laureates in the Anderson Academic Commons, Special Events Room. This reading brings together for the first time Colorado Poet Laureate Joseph Hutchison (University College) and former Oregon Poet Laureate Lawson Inada. Both will read from their work, as well as engage with the audience.Read More

A Foe Pah re: Marked Men
When my wonderful friend and Web artist Sabina Espinet imported The Perpetual Bird from its original home on Blogger, certain draft posts showed up in my Wordpress back office. (On Blogger, drafts are left in order by the creation date, so if you create a draft and don’t finish it, and two weeks go by, it’s easy to forget that you’d begun it, or—if you’re me—to somehow believe that you’ve already finished and posted it.) Among these drafts was a fragment containing a link to an interview done with me by Robert King, founder and proprietor of the Colorado Poets Center.Read More
