Vision and Revision
This time-lapse video of Seamus Berkeley creating a portrait of Ashley might teach poets a good deal about the writing process. Seamus and I were involved in a project that surfaced last October at The Rane Gallery in Taos (see the second event mentioned here). The event was called “Interwoven Illuminations,” and it involved poets writing in response to works of art, with artists in turn creating art in response to poems—all in sequence, starting with a painting by Bill Rane. Neither the poets nor the artists knew whose work they were responding to.Read More

Against Intellectualoids
We just returned from four days in Taos and a magical* evening at Rane Gallery. (See my earlier post on the event.) Details in a day or so, since I’m digging out from under emails and engaging in some gainful work to help pay for the trip. Two Upcoming Readings and a Workshop
Just thought I’d let you know I have a reading and workshop coming up on Saturday, September 20, at the Columbine Poetry Festival, hosted by the Writers Studio at Arapahoe Community College. You can find more details here. Swing by if you’re of a mind to and please do let any friends and students who might be interested know about the Festival. Also, if you happen to be in Taos on Saturday, October 11, I’ll be reading with a whole bunch of terrific poets at the RANE Gallery, in conjunction with the Taos Fall Art Festival.Read More

Its aim is to launch a book of poems written in response to paintings by the late Bill Rane, entitled The Master’s Hand.Read More

Reflections on Reflections on RANE
I was fortunate in being asked to travel to Taos and join with a number of other poets to celebrate the life and work of the late Taos-based artist Bill Rane at the Rane Gallery, admirably run by his wife, Judith. The event, “Reflections on RANE,” took place on Saturday, September 22, in the Gallery itself. Each of the poets had picked a painting of Bill’s to write about—or from—or around! Anyway, the exchange of impressions was exhilarating, not least because the fine poets involved proved to be equally wonderful as people and artists.Read More
