I’m excited to be joining so many fantastic poets in Crestone! The full festival runs Thursday through Sunday, February 21-24. Work commitments are keeping me from basking in the entire event and the many tantalizing workshops on offer.
My particular workshop, on Saturday, February 23, from 1:00-3:00 p.m., is called The Music of What Happens: Exploring Soundscape. Here’s the description:
The music that makes poems memorable springs from the interaction of cadences and the rise and fall of syllable sounds. This interaction is called “soundscape”: “An atmosphere or environment created by or with sound.” We’ll explore the impact of sound patterns on the reader’s experience of a poem and practice some ways of enriching that experience through the fine-tuning of soundscape.
The workshop will be followed by a “Poem-a-palooza” that evening, with a rich array of poetic voices, including Art Goodtimes, Barbara Ford, Jane Hillberry, Barbara Robidoux, Noona O’Reilly, Maria Melendez Kelson, Aaron Abeyta, Peggy Godfrey, Mark Irwin, Wendy Videlock, Danny Rosen, Julie Cummings, Adrian H. Molina, Jessica Helen Lopez, and Nathan Brown. Wow!
