Dig it. A tantalizing excerpt from a Village Voice interview with Allen Ginsberg, published October 15, 1958. Ginsberg was 32 at the time. This is evidently the source for his famous characterization of Jack Kerouac’s style as “spontaneous bop prosody.” (I’m in the midst of rereading On the Road and can affirm the truth of Ginsberg’s phrase.) Ginsberg also serves up a wonderful riposte to an attack by Norman Podhoretz on the Beats; you’ll get a special kick out of it if you’ve seen this doddering old neo-con paranoid twit on TV, stumping for attacks on Iran.
