    I’ve probably tossed around a few sneers myself, Mark. A weakness of bloggery: it’s all too easy to write a few ill-considered words and fling them into the world with a mouse-click. I must say I like strong opinions, as long as they’re put forward honestly. And it’s important, of course, to keep humanity in view. In James Wright’s letters he mentions being attacked in rather nasty personal ways

    I may have been a bit harsh at the beginning; however, I have never really viewed Silliman as "sneering." He certainly has strong opinions, but then, he is writing from the fringes, as it were, even after 30 years. I have read a great deal of "sneering" comentary on Language & avante garde poetry publish by "establishment poets" over the years, as well. We each

    Mark, I evidently need to write more clearly. You’re right that Silliman says that Mailer’s cameo suggests something about Levertov’s character; but the cameo itself — which in its entirety reads "a charming and most attractive dark-haired English girl with a characteristic space between her two front teeth.
