Fine comments, all. And Art—your experience doesn’t surprise me. After all, you are firmly plugged into “weird” in the ancient sense: “the principle, power, or agency by which events are predetermined” (OED). The young Wright’s encounter with the young Sioux with the hook for a hand has nothing of the accidental about it, either….

Thanks, Joe, for this great review. I knew I’d read Hook before and pulled James Wright: Selected Poems, edited by the Blys from the shelf and it opened magically to Hook. How is that for weirdness?
