    What I think is interesting about this, while you may want to call it transcribing (which it is), is that it actually forces the students (I would think, as Goldsmith would challenge students as he seems like a rather interesting and intellectually challenging person when I listen to his readings and the like) to find a way to approach writing without relying on easy prescribed modes of thought.

Strange, odd, peculiar, eccentric. Also: of questionable character; suspicious, dubious.<br /><br />Seems straightforward enough, in this context anyway.
