    Joel, by "technological rationalism" I just mean the rather narrow spectrum of rationality that feeds our addiction to technologies, whether they are useful, useless, or actively destructive. It seems to me there is no essential difference <I>in mentality</I> between an engineer producing an iPod and another producing a nuclear weapon; they are equally in love with methods.     A whole bevy of ifs, ands, buts <BR/>are popping around in my head.<BR/>-<BR/>Owen Barfield wrote a book about Coleridge I learned of from an essay by Robin Blaser I read over a year ago. Haven’t yet reserved a copy of it through the local library. The idea of <I>natura naturans</I> is all that has stuck with me. Obviously Barfield deserves more attention.
